Four Mustangs earn all-HOIC hoops recognition

Andrew Van Ryswyk and Reed Worth finished in the top five in scoring during Heart of Iowa Conference games this past season.

Van Ryswyk was the league’s top rebounder and Worth led the conference in steals.

Both Mustang seniors were named to the first team in the HOIC for their efforts. A total of four PCM players earned all-conference recognition as senior Isaac Telfer and junior Jason Stafford were honorable mention selections.

Eight Mustangs received academic all-conference honors, including Van Ryswyk, Worth, Telfer, Stafford and juniors Kolten Johnson, Cooper VandeLune, Chase Spencer and Brock Winegardner.

PCM finished third in the HOIC with a 10-3 record. The Mustangs trailed only Class 3A Gilbert (11-2) and league champion South Hamilton (13-1), which placed third in all of Class 2A.

Van Ryswyk averaged 17.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this season. He shot 52.7 percent from the floor, 44 percent from 3-point range and 77 percent from the free-throw line. Van Ryswyk made 49 treys, dished out 27 assists, collected 10 steals and blocked 14 shots.

In conference play, Van Ryswyk was second in the league in scoring at 18.4 points per game. His 11.8 rebounds per game easily led the conference. He shot 52.2 percent from the floor, 44 percent from 3-point range and 77 percent from the foul line. Van Ryswyk was fifth in the league with 32 made 3-pointers, dished out 21 assists, blocked nine shots and collected eight steals.

Worth averaged 16.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and three steals per game while shooting 38 percent from the floor, 34.4 percent from 3-point range and 62 percent from the line. He made 56 3-pointers.

In conference play, Worth averaged 17.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.15 assists and a HOIC-best 3.23 steals per game. He shot 38 percent from the floor, 34.7 percent from 3-point range and 63.6 percent from the line. Worth ranked third in the conference in made 3-pointers with 35.

Telfer was the Mustangs’ third leading scorer and second-leading rebounder this past season.

He averaged 7.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.43 assists and one steal per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 53.7 percent from the line.

In conference games, Telfer averaged 7.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.61 assists and 1.38 steals per game while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 58.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Stafford averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and a team-high 4.14 assists per game and finished with 18 steals and 21 made 3-pointers.

He shot 40 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from long range and 76 percent from the line.

Stafford had the most assists among all conference players during HOIC games. In conference play, Stafford averaged 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, a league-high 4.54 assists and one steal per game. He made 15 3-pointers, shot 43.2 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent from the charity stripe.
