First UMC to host pianist, composer

The First United Methodist Church, 210 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton, will be hosting solo pianist and composer John Nilsen at 3 p.m. Oct. 21 in the church sanctuary.

Nilsen hails from Oregon and has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He is much in demand as an artist to perform for schools and churches alike.

He offers Artist-in-Residence programs in community school districts in the Pacific Northwest.

To date, Nilsen has recorded 19 CDs and is currently working on his 20th. He performs a wide variety of music, much of it his original compositions.

This is a free performance open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken and Nilsen’s CDs will be available for purchase.
