INDIANOLA — Newton’s Berg Middle School girls competed in their first track meet of the season on Friday at Indianola. There were no team scores for the meet.
“The girls did an outstanding job under windy and cold conditions and against tough CIML competition,” BMS girls’ head track coach Eric Vander Velden said.
In the eighth-grade division, Kealey Manning placed first in the discus with a throw of 82 feet and was second in the shot put at 29-4. Brooklyn Cupples took second in the long jump with a leap of 14-5 and Morgan Peterson was sixth at 14 feet. Ella White was fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-2.
The distance medley relay team of Peterson, Cupples, Kya Butler and Alyssa Shannon ran second in 4 minutes, 56.77 seconds. The 4x800-meter relay team of Lauren Zaabel, Morgan Stalzer, Kelsey Church and Shannon was fifth in 12:05.03.
Peterson, Cupples, Butler and White combined for fourth place in the 4x100 relay race in 58.12 seconds and the same four ran fourth in the 4x200 in 2:05.61.
Emma Rogers was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 19.26 seconds and sixth in the 200 hurdles in 36.28 seconds. Shannon placed sixth in the 800 in 2:52.71.
Newton’s Akual Malow won the seventh-grade 100 hurdles in 19.61 seconds with DeGoey was sixth in 21.93. Those two combined with Audrey Rausch and Lillie Ray to capture first in the shuttle hurdle relay race in 1:23.62.
In the 4x200, Rausch, Libby Shores, Adriana Rodriquez and Ray turned in a second-place time of 2:10.16. The same foursome was third in the 4x100 in 59.30 seconds. The 4x800 relay team of Emily Wermager, Brooke Bayles, Emma Lopez-Garcia and Kate Muckler was sixth in 13:29.39.
Jayden Lukefahr took second in the shot put with a toss of 23-9. Tierney Adams was fourth in the event at 23-6.
