Newton Police Department

• Harlie A. Sparks, 22, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant for fifth-degree theft after authorities pulled her over at 2 a.m. Wednesday at 200 E. Seventh St. N. While being placed under arrest, officers found a small multi-colored pipe on Sparks. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jennifer B. Houston, 46, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called at 3:52 p.m. Feb. 6 to 335 Iowa Speedway Drive. Officers met with the manager of the Verizon store who said while Houston was inside the store purchasing an item she took a pop socket hanging from a display and a demo phone. She then left the store without paying for them. The total value of the items was $115. She was cited and released to appear.

• Nicholas J. Knudsen, 33, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant for violation of condition of release at 7:59 p.m. Tuesday after authorities were called to the 900 block of South Fifth Avenue East. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
