Carol Robinson

Carol E. Reeder Robinson, 93, of Newton, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at her home in Newton Village in Newton.

Carol’s memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of service.

Carol Everetta Reeder was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Tama County to Carl Reeder and Bessie Brown Reeder, as the eighth of nine siblings.

Carol moved to Newton at age 18 to work at the Maytag Company during the war production era. She met her future husband, Kenneth Robinson in Newton, in 1946, after his discharge from the service and they were married Nov. 5, 1946, in Pleasantville.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was also active in Newton Chapter No. 100 Order of the Eastern Star and held many officer positions including being Past Worthy Matron. She worked part time for many years at the Maytag/Midtown Café. Carol enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, travel, cards and board games.

Those left to honor Carol’s memory are her two sons, Glen Robinson of Des Moines and Randal (Pat McGivern) Robinson of Waterloo; her four grandchildren, Sean Robinson, Melissa (Sam) Stravers, Ashley (Justin) Mecham and Brian (Reanne) Robinson; and her great-grandchildren, Rylan and Lillie Robinson, Stella and Iris Stravers, Hunter Knowles and Justin Mecham, Jr. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; great-grandson, Jayden Robinson in infancy; and her eight siblings.
