Monroe man arrested for probation violation in 2016 domestic abuse case

PD reports 44 service calls from Dec. 10-23

A Monroe man was arrested Dec. 12 on a warrant issued by the Jasper County District Court after violating his 2016 probation.

The Monroe Police Department is reporting 49-year-old Donald Sites was taken into custody at approximately 10 p.m. According to online Jasper County court documents, Sites was serving one year of probation for domestic assault/abuse causing injury from an incident Sept. 22, 2016. Court records show Sites was sentenced in November 2017.

He was transported to Jasper County Jail and is scheduled for a probation review hearing Jan. 10.

• Shawn Hartman, 36, of Ottumwa, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while license suspended Dec. 17 after an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle exceeding the speed limit on Highway 14. Hartman was also cited for excessive speed and failure to produce insurance. Hartman was taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Philip Eldridge, 35, of Des Moines, was charged with OWI, second offense, and possession of marijuana, third offense Dec. 18. According to the Monroe Police Department, Eldridge was arrested at approximately 11:43 p.m. after officers conducted a traffic stop for suspicious activity and impaired driving. Eldridge was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

From Dec. 10-23, the Monroe Police Department responded to 44 calls for service.

• Responded to a report of a gas drive off. The officer was unable to locate vehicle.

• Conducted a welfare check. The individual was OK.

• Responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver on Highway 14. The driver was located and found to not be intoxicate.

• Responded to a car-deer accident. The accident had property damage but no injuries. A report was conducted.

• Responded to a report of an intoxicated driver on Highway 163. The vehicle was located.

• Responded to a report of debris on roadway on Highway 163. The debris removed.

• Conducted a warrant check. The officer was unable to locate the subject.

• Conducted a warrant check. The subject was located and taken into custody.

• Checked on suspicious activity at a business. The activity was caused by the owner and there was no situation.

• Conducted a paper service.

• Responded to a report of a sign blocking view at intersection. It was handled by an office.

• Conducted a second paper service.

• Responded to a report of an assault. The case is under investigation.

• Responded to a report of a reckless driver on Highway 163. The vehicle was located and stopped.

• Assisted Iowa State Patrol on the traffic stop of a stolen vehicle. The driver was taken into custody by ISP.

• Responded to a report of an assault on school property. A case has been initiated.

• Assisted Newton Police Department on a vehicle pursuit.

• Conducted a traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody.

• Conducted a second traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody.

• Responded to Prairie City for a report of Harassment. The case is under investigation.

• Responded to a report of suspicious activity. No one was around when the officer arrived.

• Responded to a report of dogs at large.

• Assisted the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office with locating a victim in a case.

• Responded to a report of a reckless driver on Highway 163. The vehicle was located and the situation was reported.

• Responded to a report of theft. The issue became a civil matter.

• Assisted the Monroe Fire Department on a fire alarm.

• Conducted a motorist assist.

• Responded to Prairie City to assist with transportation.

• Located a 17-year-old subject stranded in Monroe with no transportation. The individual was transported to their residence in Des Moines.

• Located an open door on a house check. The house was checked and cleared.

• Responded to a report of a 911 hang-up. The subject was safe and a misdialed was reported.

• Responded to a report of a theft. The case is under investigation.

• Responded to twelve miscellaneous calls for service.

• Continuing to work on open investigations.

• Conducted checks on vacation houses.
