James H. Van Ekeren

James H. Van Ekeren of Montgomery, Ill., went home to be with his heavenly Father Dec. 23, 2017. Jim was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Monroe to Dick and Edith Hoagland Van Ekeren.

Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1947, and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1967, and from the Federal Aviation Agency in 1986.

He was an active member of Fourth Street United Methodist Church and The Fox Valley Military retirees. He was also a member of the American Legion, The Moose International, the Masonic Lodge and The Phoenix Club of Aurora, Ill. Jim was still an active volunteer at Rush-Copley Hospital after 40 years of service.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elberta Holden Van Ekeren; one daughter, Jillynn (David) Brandt; two grandsons, Matthew (Amanda) Brandt of Perrysburg, Ohio and Jason (Teah) Brandt of Elburn, Ill.; one great-grandson, Benjamin Paul Brandt of Perrysburg, Ohio; brother, Philip (Berta) Van Ekeren of Monroe; and many other relatives, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Judith Fay; a brother, Ramon; and a sister, Norma.

Services were Friday, Dec. 29 at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, Ohio, with Rev. Ryan Hetzer presiding. Burial was at the Lutheran cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Fourth Street United Methodist Church, 551 S. Fourth St., Aurora, IL 60505.
